Individual Advocacy

What is Individual Advocacy?

Individual Advocacy supports people with any type of disability. They help by:

  • Advocating on their behalf
  • Helping clients to understand their rights
  • Supporting clients with their goals.

This can be:

  • Providing information and advice so that the person with disability can advocate for themselves.
  • Supporting the person with disability to be heard when having problems with a service, business, person or government department.

How Individual Advocacy can help you

We can help if you:

  • Need information and advice
  • Cannot get a service you need
  • You are unhappy with a service
  • Need help speaking to a government department
  • Need to make a complaint
  • Are experiencing abuse and/or discrimination
  • Need help understanding your rights

Our advocates will listen to you to about your problem and what you would like to do about it. They will give you information and suggestions to help you solve the problem yourself. If you cannot solve the problem yourself, our staff can advocate on your behalf.

Ways we can help you include:

  • Writing letters
  • Making phone calls
  • Attending meetings to make sure your rights, needs and interests are upheld.

We can provide advocacy support, but not legal advice.  If SAS is unable to assist you, we will refer you to another organisation that can help.

We are here to support you.

Support is available for all people with disability who live in the Sydney metropolitan area. For more information, contact us at (02) 9622 3005.
